This project was slightly unusual for us, as it involved fitting a new wooden floor in an extension to match an existing oak wooden floor in the original part of the house. As wood flooring is such a long-lasting material, with good workmanship, we were able to match the two floors, so it was impossible to tell them apart.
Band sawn engineered hardwood flooring isn’t an obvious choice when it comes to choosing a new floor, but with the markings running across the planks, it means that it’s a floor with plenty of character and personality. With a nod to the flooring of the past, this style of wood flooring creates a statement floor with a rustic, traditional feel.
Parquet wood flooring has seen a phenomenal rise in popularity in recent years, which isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. It’s a fantastic floor for adding extra pattern into a home. Although herringbone is the most popular design (it accounts for about 99% of installations) there are plenty of other options to consider. The wood flooring market is growing, so we are finding that more and more of our customers want to experiment and create something different.
Wood flooring is an extremely durable material, which will last for generations. But that doesn’t mean it’s indestructible. To keep it looking its best, it needs to be properly maintained and protected when building work is taking place in your home.
Our reputation, expertise and skills in making and fitting end grain flooring were recognised by our clients, prompting them to specifically choose Fin Wood to create their dream floor. The project involved making pine end grain blocks and fitting them in a kitchen/living room and hall in a top floor flat near Tower Bridge.
We always like to create something really special when fitting our wooden floors and this project exceeded our client’s expectations. They wanted something a little different, that would stand out from the norm. As the rooms were such a good size, we recommended a random width hardwood engineered oak floor.
Highly decorative flooring is becoming increasingly popular. Detailing in the wood, combined with stylish fitting patterns, can create spectacular floors, that really catch the eye. End grain floors are particularly attractive and as they are specially crafted, they’re not something you see every day. They are incredibly strong and also have very good sound insulating properties.
Wood flooring has been used for thousands of years. However, glued down floors or stuck down wooden floors are a recent solution. As the wood flooring industry advanced more performant adhesives were needed to keep up the pace.
If you’ve ever thought about installing wood flooring in a flat or apartment, without adequate sound proofing, it’s definitely time to think again. Not only could you fall out with your neighbours, but you could also be left with a hefty legal bill.
