Art Deco Inspired Walnut Herringbone Parquet with Oak Tramline Border, Ealing W5
#CraftedForLife
Embracing a Rich Art Deco Style
The clients were drawn to a palette of gold accents and deep, rich tones, including warm browns and jade green, embracing a distinctly Art Deco aesthetic. Walnut is synonymous with this classic 1920s style, valued for its depth of colour and refined character. The lacquered finish enhances the richness of the timber, introducing a luxurious sheen reminiscent of ballroom glamour. Art Deco embraces bold geometric designs, and this rich walnut herringbone parquet with a high gloss finish perfectly captures that balance of pattern, colour and elegance.

Precise Project Management
This stunning new floor was part of a larger home renovation project. The new floor installation was carefully phased to accommodate the builders’ schedule and to ensure the newly laid flooring was fully protected following completion of each stage. Particular attention was given to setting out the floor, ensuring precise alignment and a symmetrical layout throughout. The walnut herringbone parquet was installed across the ground, first and second floors, creating a cohesive and continuous flow throughout the property. The subfloors had been prepared in advance by the building contractor, providing a suitable base for the installation.

Bespoke Square Edge Walnut Herringbone
The clients had a very specific requirement for a walnut herringbone parquet unusually without a bevelled edge to create a super flat effect. We arranged for this bespoke request directly with the factory. The blocks measured 70mm x 280mm and 15mm thick, manufactured with a square edge profile to create a super flat, seamless surface. This crisp finish enhances the precision of the pattern and delivers a luxurious, ballroom style effect, perfectly suited to the refined 1920s Art Deco aesthetic the clients wished to achieve.

High Gloss Lacquer and On Site Finishing
In keeping with the Art Deco aesthetic, the clients favoured a super gloss finish to enhance the richness and drama of the walnut. The floor was lacquered on site to achieve the desired depth of shine and refined, polished appearance. Applying a high gloss lacquer requires careful control of the environment, as it can be less forgiving in dusty conditions. Through meticulous preparation and attention to detail, we successfully managed these challenges to deliver a flawless, mirror-like finish.

Intricate Curves and Meticulous Craftsmanship
This project incorporated tightly curved borders, requiring a high level of precision and craftsmanship. Each curve was carefully set out and formed to the millimetre, seamlessly connecting clean straight lines with perfectly shaped arches. The result was a refined interplay between structure and flow, achieved through meticulous attention to detail at every stage. Careful and consistent sanding was essential, particularly as the chosen high gloss lacquer would reveal even the slightest imperfection. The clients held exceptionally high standards, and from our initial meeting to final completion, the project was carefully planned to ensure every detail was executed exactly as intended.
