Traditional style oak stair cladding with matching varied width boards and a feature herringbone parquet, East Dulwich SE22
#CraftedForLife
Traditional style oak stair cladding
We skillfully crafted a traditional oak staircase in a large Victorian terrace in East Dulwich. The original staircase required meticulous levelling to make sure there was consistent height and depth in the stairs. We used 240mm wide boards that were 20mm thick in premier grade for the stair cladding. We removed the existing newel post, handrail and spindles, replacing them with new ones but maintaining a classic style.

A seamless transition between the herringbone parquet and the adjacent boards.
The stairs were clad with new wood, including freshly painted risers and cladded stringers which is a very usual yet elegant design feature. The traditional cladding style was chosen by the customers to complement the overall aesthetic of the house.
A stunningly simple herringbone parquet
We showcased a stunningly simple herringbone parquet floor reserved as a standout feature for the main double reception room.
The herringbone parquet flooring brings a special elegance to the ground floor. We installed 15mm thick 70x280mm parquet blocks with a bevelled edge and finished with clear oil. The design was simple and borderless, allowing the full parquet pattern to be enjoyed from edge to edge. We ensured a seamless transition between the herringbone parquet and the adjacent boards by accommodating the different thicknesses and achieving an accurate subfloor level, managing a 5mm difference with precision.

Mixed width boards, a more sustainable option
We transformed the kitchen extension and hallway with random width floors composed of 20mm thick boards in a natural grade.
Random width boards create a natural feel and utilise the whole tree more efficiently in an eco-friendly manner. The boards were hand finished with a clear oil to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. These boards, that varied in widths from 130mm to 240mm, were randomly placed in order to create a visually interesting pattern. These boards added character and hidden beauty, which invites you to sit down and appreciate their unique story.
As part of the preparation stage, we removed the existing tiles in the kitchen and grinded down the remaining adhesive to achieve a smooth surface, ensuring that it was ready for the underfloor heating system to be installed.

Facilitating the underfloor heating installation
Accommodating underfloor heating (UFH) throughout the entire ground floor required close coordination with the building company to ensure the proper subfloor heights. New skirting boards were installed across the ground floor, and after the builders completed the painting, we conducted a deep clean of the floor and applied an extra coat of oil for a pristine and polished finish.
Thermal insulation was installed between the joists.
We prepared and levelled the subfloor for the builders.

“Alin and his team were very professional: advised us on the selection of wood with his expertise, scheduled their work in advance, punctual all the time, and most of all their work is immaculate. We worked with Finwood during two separate phases of our renovation. If we ever have to do another renovation, we will definitely go with them again!!”
