Walnut Herringbone Parquet Installation custom stair cladding in SE5 Denmark Hill, London
A new home built and planned with attention to detail. The walnut was especially chosen by the architect to provide a contrast with the white walls and ceiling. To emphasise the beauty of the walnut floor and stairs the light was especially chosen and planned as well.
Although being a dark floor over a considerable surface the atmosphere didn't become austere, but on the contrary, complemented with the special light, it became warm and welcoming.
The stairs treads were cladded with walnut boards and the risers painted white. Over the wider steps we selected the boards with similar grains and joined them seamlessly.
The concrete sub-floor was tested in advance for moisture and when the readings allowed we started cleaning it and applied the liquid DPM.
By repeated measurements against various walls we established the the position of the starting line.
On the upper floors the herringbone parquet was installed only on the hallways. The two sets of stairs were cladded with walnut engineered boards, finished with nosings.
Once the installation was complete we could start sealing the steps and parquet with Polyx Oil. First we did a light sand to remove the minor ridges and open the grains after which two coats of oiled were applied.
A wonderful walnut parquet and boards supplied by The Natural Wood Floor Co., our preferred manufacturer of quality wooden floors. Â
