Classic Stairs Cladding with Oak boards and custom finishing in SE8 Deptford
Stair cladding is one of our services that allows us to prove our skills. A particular aspect of this project was to seamlessly connect the cladded stairs with the landings which were already finished with luxury vinyl. It is a bit special since the thickness of our engineered boards used for cladding was surpassing the thickness of the vinyl surface with more than 7mm. Secondly we had to match as much as possible the look of the natural wood with the vinyl surface.
Because the staircase was not in it's best days we started by strengthening the steps thus eliminating the most of the squeaks. Once the preparation stage was done measurements were taken to understand how each step will influence the neighbouring one and therefore the final joint with the vinyl covering.
Our suggestion was to go for a classic stair cladding, with nosing as it was more suitable with the many existing victorian elements. The nosing joined the riser with the tread giving the additional roundness on the edge of the step.
After the cladding was complete the new steps were lightly sanded. To get the closest colour match with the vinyl surface we applied firstly a water based stain, then an oil stain and finally the clear satin Polyx oil for protection.
