This restoration project took place in a lower ground floor flat with high ceilings and many other period features. The flat was one of four spacious flats converted from an impressive Victorian mansion. We were pleased to find out that the customers were admiring instagram followers. After viewing and liking our craftsmanship online, they contacted us to restore their pine floor in an open plan living space.

Normally we are reluctant to restore original pine floors as we believe they were designed to be the subfloor. Original pine floors are usually very old and weak, they are likely to have rusted iron nails that stain the floor and sometimes there is a tar border to protect them from rotting (see related blog post for more info). But in this case the owners were looking specifically for a worn, rustic look and they appreciated gaps between the floorboards as character.

We use top quality tools and materials such as Laegler and Osmo.
After closer examination of the floor we found that apart from a few cosmetic repairs it was in a good condition. It had been previously sanded but still had enough thickness for further restoration. After thoroughly sanding the floor we then started to evenly apply the dramatic ebony colour, Osmo oil wood wax ebony 3161. We used a buffing machine to buff the colour oil deep into the grain. We waited for it to dry and applied a final coat of clear satin Osmo polyx oil. We carefully placed the furniture back and enjoyed seeing the space become a home again, just now much more striking.
