Warehouse Conversion is Given an Update With a New Modern Wooden Floor
Working on older properties can be a challenge but the end results are always spectacular. This project, in a converted warehouse in Bermondsey, was no exception. We replaced a dated laminate floor with a new dark engineered wood, which completely refreshed and enhanced the industrial style interior.
The new wooden floor sits beautifully in the apartment
The new flooring was installed in the open plan kitchen diner, living room, hallway and a bedroom. We also reconfigured the steps in the split level apartment and renovated two built-in benches.
Preparing the subfloor
Our first job was to remove the old 3-strip flooring and improve the condition of the subfloor. This was damaged by a flood in the kitchen, so we had to dig up the uneven surface and completely renovate this area to create a solid and sound structure for the new flooring.

Creating a new step layout
The apartment featured a diagonal step between the hall and living room, which the homeowner wanted to convert to a rectangular structure. As we are experienced joiners, we were able to use our carpentry skills to change and improve the step layout. We could then set the alignment of the floor, ensuring that there was a continuous line running between the boards on the two different levels. The step was clad in the same flooring with a single joint to create a clean unfussy look.
Another aspect of our work was improving the existing built-in benches in the bedroom and living room. These were renovated by cladding the top in the same wood flooring to create a smart and functional feature. These tied in visually with the new flooring and the tones of the dark wood made a dramatic contrast with the exposed brickwork.
Before - the tops are stripped off, ready for the new wood
After - the smart renovated benches have become a feature in their own right
The new flooring had to fit around an original metal pillar. This required precision cutting and fitting which we achieved, creating a completely seamless and accurate fit.
We were also called upon to adjust and improve the steps in the living room, leading out to the balcony. These were clad on all three sides to match the appearance of the other step in the living room.

Top marks for our work
We were delighted with our top 10 rating on Checkatrade and the customer’s feedback commenting on our “faultless” fitting and that we were “clean, punctual and polite.”
