As London’s premier wood floor fitters, we always get a great deal of satisfaction fitting parquet wood flooring, as it requires real skill and craftsmanship. This project in Highgate was no exception.

We always love a challenge and there were plenty of obstacles to overcome when we fitted 61 sq metres of an aged oak parquet wood floor in a classic herringbone design. The flooring was installed in the kitchen, living room, an L shaped hallway, which was divided by awkward steps, and two bedrooms. The subfloor in one of the bedrooms was slightly higher than the landing, so we had to ensure the parquet blocks were perfectly aligned for a seamless fit.

Stair cladding

To make a feature of the steps, we recommended cladding them in engineered oak boards and installing the aged parquet blocks on the top step. This made what could have been an awkward obstacle into a feature in its own right.

Fitting wood flooring around a fireplace

The fireplace was also a beautiful focal point. To help draw the eye to this feature we recommended installing pre-oiled engineered boards around the hearth to create a clean and simple border. This complimented the soft tumbled edges of the parquet wood flooring.

Installing a soundproof membrane with wood flooring

As the property was a first floor flat, a soundproof membrane was essential to reduce the impact of noise. We discussed the options with the client and recommended a 6 mm thick membrane which we fitted to the chipboard subfloor. The soundproof membrane was then glued down and flattened with a 70 kilo roller to ensure that it had completely bonded with the adhesive.

Sealing the wood floor

As the wood was supplied pre-oiled the floor simply needed an additional coat of Osmo Poly Satin. This extra coat of sealer created a hardwearing protective coat and the matt finish enhanced the natural beauty of the oak.

The project was successfully fitted by the Fin Wood team, Alin, Marius, Constantin, Stelian and Daniel. It took around 9 days to complete.
