This expansive project entailed the reconstruction of the subfloor, soundproofing and the installation of oversized light oak herringbone parquet flooring. The project took place within the top floor of a spacious and refined mansion flat situated in the esteemed locale of Maida Vale, boasting captivating views of the surrounding areas. The property is a 1930s mansion flat building in Maida Vale.
The project was particularly complex due to strict building regulations, particularly regarding the exclusive access of the lift to residents. This posed a significant challenge in transporting boards and tools to the property. To overcome this, we engaged a specialised lifting service typically used for furniture relocation. This solution facilitated in delivering all the materials and tools from street level to the property via the balcony, ensuring the compliance with regulations while efficiently managing logistical hurdles.

When removing the aged floorboards, we discovered that the subfloor was marred by old building rubble and material, requiring us to conduct a thorough cleanup facilitated by the external lift outside. Once cleared, we integrated an essential acoustic mineral wool into the floor for optimal soundproofing. Reconstruction of the subfloor then commenced with quality birch plywood to provide a sturdy foundation, available from Fin Wood. We laid a premium 12mm thick impact sound reduction membrane and used acoustic mineral wool for a good level of sound proofing, a common requirement for upper floor flats.

After the subfloor reconstruction work was completed, we proceeded to install the herringbone parquet flooring using luxurious light oak blocks.
As the flat was situated in the corner of the building, we opted for a diagonal layout to enhance the parquet pattern and flow within the rooms.
To create a seamless aesthetic, we refrained from using borders, which allowed the pattern to fluidly travel through the expansive rooms. Given the large size of the flat and its rooms, we opted for oversized herringbone blocks 600x120mm and 15mm thick, pre-finished in the factory with quality assurance. To ensure its longevity, the floor was treated with a thorough deep clean and an additional coat of oil, ensuring it gleamed with timeless beauty. The customers were delighted with the luxurious finished floor and grateful for the smoothness of the whole project.
