This project involved fitting elegant engineered oak herringbone parquet across the entire ground floor of a large detached house in a leafy private road in Surrey. The ground floor includes a spacious entrance hallway, two reception rooms, a playroom, a large kitchen and breakfast room, separate dining room, utility room and cloakroom. The floor was previously an uninviting mismatch of various types of tiles and the owners were keen to unify and make it more warm and natural with classic engineered oak parquet blocks.

The parquet blocks were a standard medium size of 100 x 400 mm which is a good proportion for large rooms with lots of traditional features such as cornicing, dado rails, high skirting boards and feature fireplaces. We proposed a single row border around the entire floor perimeter to give a subtle, stylish finish to the floor design. We carefully crafted precise mitres at the corners to achieve a well laid out design.

The self levelling compound was already laid over the under floor heating. We gently ground down any areas of high areas to make a satisfactory degree of flatness before we began to install the parquet floor. As in most cases the floor was glued down.
