Elegant grey herringbone parquet completes refurbishment of recently extended semi-detached home in Merrow Park, Surrey GU4
#CraftedForLife
A statement parquet
This project was part of a complete refurbishment of the ground floor including a new kitchen extension. This semi-detached house in Merrow Park, Surrey was extended into the garden to provide spacious open plan family living space. The customers wanted a special statement, herringbone parquet. We recommended a long parquet block (700mm x 350mm) that allowed a more traditional, elegant pattern. The blocks were untreated to allow a bespoke, custom shade of grey. The customers were very decided about the colour as they wanted the floor to compliment and integrate with their bespoke two-tone grey kitchen cabinetry.

Flattening the sub-floor
As part of the refurbishment work, the customers fitted underfloor heating (UFH) and the builders had poured self levelling compound over the UFH pipes. As sometimes happens, the surface of this subfloor was uneven and wavy in places making it unsuitable for the new floor. We decided to lay another self-levelling compound to compensate the low points and give a flat smooth finish needed as a good base for the parquet. This flat subfloor was also a useful foundation for sliding pocket doors and the floating entertainment book case. We added a layer of damp proof membrane (DPM), to seal the sub-floor and protect it from any rising moisture.

We used Ardex NA, a reliable and effective self levelling product.
Special features
We used laser accurate measurements to install the floor continuously throughout the ground floor with no breaks at the doors and no direction changes. The customers decided against a border to avoid cluttering narrow sections in the hallway. We recommended our signature integrated door mat at the entrance.

Finishing the floor
We lightly sanded the floor to clean and open the grain and to remove any raised ridges for a smooth finish. We applied the custom colour using osmo oils. As the customer was well decided about the colour it was clear what shade of grey we needed to create. Finally, we applied two coats of protective osmo polyx oil clear satin. The customers were very happy with the finished floor and excited to complete the refurbishment and start using their new space.
