We loved working in this South London loft apartment with rare stunning views across London. Herringbone parquet was a perfect choice for this top floor flat in a large converted Victorian house. We used premier grade oak engineered parquet blocks (100x400mm) and clear Osmo oil. It was a complicated space set over two levels with stairs that needed strengthening and cladding. The Victorian building had a variety of sub-floors that required our expertise to prepare it for the new floor. The customer requested impact sound reduction membrane out of consideration for her downstairs neighbours. Tight spaces meant we had to work around and protect furniture as we went along. We undercut the skirting board to allow the herringbone parquet to be seamless and uninterrupted.

We discussed with the customer the benefits of taking down the old newel post and rail and to create something that matched with the new floor. We used engineered oak boards (240mm wide x 20mm thick) to clad the stairs. We opted for a more modern design for the staircase and painted the risers white. We applied an extra coat of oil to make sure the floor was as well protected as possible. The customer was very happy with the new design of the stairs.
