Time to maintain your oil finished floor?

From time to time your wooden floor will need to be refreshed to increase its longevity. Our motto is to install wood flooring ‘crafted for life’ and we want to help you achieve this for your floor. Occasionally oiling your wooden floor will refresh the top coat of oil and will preserve the character and beauty of your wooden floor. The interval for oil your floor depends on its usage. In bars, restaurants and commercial areas the interval for this will be shorter than for normal domestic areas.

A good product to use is Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. Also available as Liquid Wax Cleaner White for white floors. It should be used in conjunction with Osmo Opti-Set and the active fibre cloth. On larger areas a buffing machine is recommended for an efficient application of the wax cleaners. We will be glad to provide you with our support, if you need some assistance please get in touch.

RENOVATION AND REFINISHING

Many floors lack a minimum of care and maintenance. But even the best cared for oiled floors eventually shows signs of wear. One particular well loved floor I remember had a strict no shoes policy and it was regularly cleaned with dedicated products yet years later it was still showing signs that it needed a new coat of oil. One of the great advantages of oil finished floors is that, unlike traditional lacquers and varnishes, they can be repaired or finished without the need for sanding.

First the floor needs a thorough cleaning.

The application can be done as a DIY activity or professionally for larger surfaces or more complicated requirements like coloured floors or very worn ones where dirt managed to get into the grains. Our recommendation is to use Osmo Polyx-Oil.

Manual application: Apply a thin coat of Osmo Polyx-Oil with either the Osmo Floor Brush or the Floor Roller Set. Leave it to properly cure until stepping over. You may read the technical chart for more information.

Mechanical application: A buffing machine will be used to firstly intensively clean the wooden floor and then apply the Polyx-Oil to the floor. If you need our expert assistance we are glad to help. Contact us here.
