The most intricate part of this project was the hallway which also is the main focus of the whole floor. Due to its walls not quite straight and parallel which is a specific feature in Victorian homes and the many doors as well as to adjoining stairs we had to carefully take various measurements until finding the ideal alignment and symmetrical layout. As it is shown in the pictures the floor looks amazing on the main length of the hallway, having in middle only 3 wide rows of boards, and this without diminishing the overall layout.
We recommended wide boards with a minimal bevel on the sides and straight cut at the ends to actually create the impression of a more spacious environment.
An impact sound reduction membrane was laid under the engineered boards to minimise the discomfort produced by the footfall sound to the downstairs neighbour.
The skirting was undercut to allow the installation of the floor under the skirting with its required expansion gap. Thus we avoided the unaesthetic beading or the inherent wall damages when removing the existing skirting. Â
