TIME TO MAINTAIN YOUR LACQUERED FINISHED FLOOR?
From time to time your wooden floor will need to be refreshed to increase its longevity. Our motto is to install wood flooring ‘crafted for life’ and we want to help you achieve this for your floor. Lacquered floors need to be periodically re-finished to preserve its character and beauty.
TWO MAINTENANCE OPTIONS
If the floor was previously maintained using wax-based polish or similar, the floor will have to be sanded back to the bare wood before applying any new lacquer. If it was maintained with just cleaning or other freshening products it is possible to apply further coats of finish with only a light sanding. Before any sanding the floor must be well cleaned.
NEW TO YOUR PROPERTY?
Of course if you are new to your property you may not be sure how the floor was previously maintained. In this case we can do a test to determine the best option. An area will be cleaned by hand, lightly sanded, and a coat of finish applied. After 48 hours the surface will be tried with a hard edge of a coin for example. If the lacquer remains intact then deep sanding can be avoided and a new coat of lacquer will be applied after only lightly sanding the surface.
